Press Release from Coalition Provisional Authority (South), Basra, Iraq CPA (South) Press Release Date: 7 October 2003 Ref.: PR025 From: Press and Public Affairs, CPA (South) Subject: Basra schools receive $500 to help reconstruction Timing: Immediate Throughout Al Basrah province, many schools have been rebuilt with funds from CPA (South), USAID, or from the Coalition Forces. Now, all schools in Al Basrah province that have not so far been reconstructed, have received an emergency grant of $500 to help with the costs of immediate repairs. The grant has been made by the Commander of the British Forces in southern Iraq, General Lamb. The payments began on 21 September, when fifty (50) schools in the Basra city area received a payment of $500. All other schools in Al Basrah province that had not yet been rehabilitated, and where plans to do so had not so far been agreed, were eligible for the grant. The grant was paid at the Education Directorate on 27 and 28 September. Photographs of the first payments on 21 September are shown below.
