Press Release from Coalition Provisional Authority (South), Basra, Iraq CPA (South) Press Release Date: 7 October 2003 Ref.: PR023 From: Press and Public Affairs, CPA (South) Subject: Kuwait donates medical supplies for southern hospitals Timing: Immediate On Thursday, 2 October 2003, a substantial volume of medical supplies were received in Iraq as a gift from the people of Kuwait, as a gesture of friendship and goodwill. The distribution of the medical supplies to all four southern provinces is being co- ordinated by Dr Raad, Director-General for Health for the Al Basrah province, on behalf of all four southern provinces. The first items were distributed on Saturday, 4 October, and distribution will be completed to hospitals and medical centres within one week. The supplies consist of: 160,000 medical syringes; 47,000 litres of intravenous (IV) fluid; 191 adult wheelchairs; and 2 pallets of medical shampoo. Dr Raad said of the gift: “The people and doctors of southern Iraq wish to thank the people of Kuwait for the kind and generous gift of medical aid. This is not the first generous donation from the people of Kuwait and we hope it will not be the last.
