IRAQIS FORM ORGANIZATIONS TO HELP OTHERS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES
Hilla, Babil Province, Iraq. Iraqis recently established two organizations to help others in their communities. Created and run by local Iraqis, they assist poor families, orphans, and widows.
Al Intisar Human Association is located in the community of Mahaweel (site of a mass grave that includes more than 20,000 victims). Al Intisar received supplies from the Humanitarian Assistance Coordination Center (HACC), including clothes, shoes, toys. The HACC also gave Al Intisar a computer, which will help train Iraqi women and children on computer usage. Kuwait gave the supplies to the HACC.
The New Iraqi Charity Establishment is located in Hilla and helps people throughout the south central region of Iraq. They received supplies from the HACC, which the New Iraqi Charity Establishment distributed to locals. The HACC also gave them a computer to improve organization and efficiency.
The HACC operates in coordination with the Polish Army and the Coalition Provisional Authority to identify needs in the region and to work with Iraqis as they find solutions.
As Iraq transitions into a sovereign country, Iraqis continue to assist others in need. The above organizations wonderfully illustrate the many ways in which Iraqis proactively take responsibility as their own country becomes sovereign and democratic.
