Frequently asked questions
Q: Do Iraqi courts have criminal jurisdiction over coalition and ORHA personnel in Iraq?
A: No Iraqi court will exercise jurisdiction over any coalition member (military member or civilian accompanying the forces).
Q: Is Iraq under military or civilian law?
A: Until an Iraqi government is established, this is legally considered a period of occupation. However, during this period, Iraqi laws apply. It will be up to the Iraqi people to make any needed adjustments to Iraq law, however the Iraqi courts are not administering those amendments to the 1969 code that are inconsistent with international and human rights laws.
