Noise and vibration 4.5.1 Wherever possible, machinery shall be selected that has a noise output level less than 85 dB(A) at a distance of 1 metre from the centre line of the machine. Where this limit would be exceeded, noise attenuation measures shall be included to meet this requirement. 4.5.2 Machinery shall not be positioned such that the combined impact of existing and new machinery contravenes the Noise at Work Regulations. 4.5.3 Where noise levels exceed or are likely to exceed the First Level or the Peak Action Level, (as given in the Noise at Work Regulations), then a noise level assessment survey shall be carried out by a competent person. The survey report shall then be submitted to CPA for approval before the recommendations are implemented. 4.5.4 Vibration levels shall be assessed and tested in accordance with BS7854.
