REGULATION 1-1 STANDARDS IN WEAPONS TRAINING FOR THE IRAQI ARMED FORCES SECOND DRAFT 26 JANUARY 2004 Training Strategy and Ammunition Requirements for IA This document provides weapon qualification standards, training strategies, and resource requirements for units equipped with AK-M1 assault rifles, RPK light machine guns, PKM medium machine guns, and P99 9mm pistols. IA units will be divided into three categories within their Brigade. Category I will consist of soldiers whose units primary job is Infantry; assigned to infantry companies, reconnaissance platoons, anti-tank platoons and mortar platoons. These soldiers require maximum time and familiarization with their weapons systems. One hundred percent of Category I personnel will have qualified with the AK-M1 in addition to their assigned TO&E weapon during the past year and ninety percent will have met the individual day and night requirements to standard. Category II will consist of soldiers whose unit’s primary job is Combat Engineers and Military Police. Although these soldiers require ample time on the pertaining weapon systems other skills are necessary and should therefore require more of the unit’s resources. At years end Category II personnel will have qualified one- hundred percent of the unit on the AK-M1, ninety percent on their assigned TO&E weapon, and eighty percent will have met the individual day and night requirements to standard. Category III will consist of soldiers whose unit’s primary job is Headquarters and Service and Motor Transport or assignment to staff positions at battalion, brigade and division levels. These solders require training; however supporting the unit should be their main focus. At years end Category III personnel will have qualified one-hundred percent of the unit on the AK-M1, 80 percent on their assigned TO&E weapon and sixty percent will have met the individual day and night requirements to standard.
