Power System Highlights for Saturday, December 25, 2003 The CPA Electricity Advisor issues this report to note significant events or conditions of interest in the power sector. The basic daily data on the power system is available on the CPA web site. HIGHLIGHTS: Mussaibe 1 repairs completed back in operation 12/24 Doura 4, back in operation 12/24 Quds # 1 & 2, Out of service due to no fuel delivery (diesel), impact; loss of 200 Mw. No Update 25 DEC Transmission Line Baghdad East – Kirkuk , 400Kv line tripped, sabotage confirmed, insulator string damaged by gunfire, rain caused flashover and line trip. Climbing ladder bars removed from tower, which is in a remote location with difficult terrain. Loss of this link severely limits the network ability to transfer power from the North to the Center and Baghdad areas. Repair is in process but requires equipment to be taken in to the site. Outage causing shortage of power in Central and Baghdad areas. Transmission Lines 2 - 132 Kv, Musalla – Rumala repaired and energized now. This allows capability to transfer power from Bashra to Nasiriya Generation: Daily System peak on 24 Dec – 3,477 Mw. Daily system Demand on 24 Dec – 5,624 Mw (Estimated) (3477, Actual Generation + 1875, Load Shed + 272, Corrected Frequency = 5624) Total generation – 67,275Mwh Imported power No Report Generators Returned to Service Mussaibe 1 + 200 Mw Doura 4 + 100 Mw Generators Unscheduled Out of Service 24 DEC 03 700 Mw Dibis 3 tripped due to feed water pump problem --------------------------- 8 Mw Dibis 2 off since Dec 12 due to feed water pump problem --------------– 8 Mw Baiji 1 tripped due to boiler leak -----------------------------------------------100 Mw Quds # 1 & 2, Out of service due to no fuel 200 Mw South Baghdad 4 out due to boiler leaks ------------------------------------ 70 Mw Old Mulla 1 Gas Turbine - Gas control-----------------------------------------15 Mw Old Mulla 2 Gas Turbine – Servo and Circuit breaker problem ------- 15 Mw Old Mulla 6 Gas Turbine High Exhaust temperature---------------------- 15 Mw New Mulla 6 GT Assorted parts require replacement-------------------- 30 Mw Taji 4 GT Turbine problem ---------------------------------------------------- 15 Mw Taji 3 GT Compressor blades damaged----------------------------------- 15 Mw Taji Mobile 1 and 2 software problem -------------------------------------- 10 Mw Hilla Gas Turbines 1, 2, 3, 4 low gas pipeline pressure ------------------- 65 Mw Najaf 1 unit off due to low natural gas pressure ----------------------------- 25 Mw Baiji 2 GT oil leak ----------------------------------------------------------------- 159 Mw Mogul 1 GT Rotor defect --------------------------------------------------------- 15 Mw Ushuaia 2 GT vibration trip at 0304 Dec 13 -----------------------------------10 Mw Generators Scheduled Out of Service 24 DEC 03 1379 Mw 3 Thermal units off-line for rehabilitation --------------------------------- 285 Mw Baiji 5 – 85 Mw - Return Jan 2004 Dora 5 and 6 – 200 Mw – Return in May 2004 9 Thermal units in programmed maintenance -------------------------- 840 Mw Dibis 1 – 8 Mw – Return Jan 25 Baiji 6 -100 Mw – Return Jan 19 South Baghdad 5 35 Mw – Return Jan 15 South Baghdad 6 35 Mw – Return Dec 26 Mussaibe 3 200 Mw – Return Dec 21 (awaiting confirmation) Nassirya 3 130 Mw – Return Feb 04 Najebia 4 90 Mw – Return Dec 22 (awaiting confirmation) Hartha 4 150 Mw – Return Dec 23 (awaiting confirmation) 7 Gas Turbine units off-line for rehabilitation ------------------------------129 Mw Dibis 4, 5, 6 24 Mw Old Mulla 12 15 Mw Taji 7 15 Mw Doura 3 20 Mw Khor Zubayr 4 55 Mw 5 units in programmed maintenance----------------- -----------------------125 Mw Mosil 3 15 Mw Old Mulla 5,7 30 Mw New Mulla 3 30 Mw Najaf 2 50 Mw Transmission: Countrywide, Iraq’s electrical output continues to be constrained by damaged transmission and distribution lines. The lines have come down due to sabotage and bad weather. Downed transmission lines increase the probability for complete nationwide blackout by reducing system contingency and causing mechanical damage at power plants. This may cause further temporary blackouts, which have already directly resulted in 1) impacted refineries causing reduced fuel flow to power plants and a subsequent reduction in power supply, and 2) damages in the power plants due to undercurrent causing units to come off-line for unscheduled maintenance. Transmission Lines out of service: 400KV Haditha-Baghdad West – finish slip from Jan 24 to Feb 29 Haditha-Qarna – Wasit – finish slip from Jan 12 to Jan 24 Baghdad South – Qadisseya – Finish Jan 20 Baiji - Baghdad West #1 –Finish Jan 20 New line - Baghdad East-Baghdad South #2 – Finish Jan 23 Babil-Qadisiyah (collapsed towers/stolen conductors/20 JAN) Haditha – Qaim – no funding Baiji – Haditha – no funding/no contractor Baghdad East Autotransformer #4- need oil –finish 3 weeks after oil arrives Baghdad East - Kirkuk, sabotage, No ECD reported 132KV Mosul – Mosul East is sabotaged Musalla – Rumala 132 Kv line still being sabotaged – 4 more towers down – now total of 7. this line ties the South generation to the North Muthena GPS – Dour - finish Dec 28 Shuwaiba-Toba-Hamar–finish Dec 30, delay due to material shortage Baghdad West – Faluja, tripped Omara-Burzegan – continues to be sabotaged.
